Border fence east of Naco.
Minuteman Project and Borderland Galleries

Minuteman Volunteers & Opponents
Arizona

Hundreds of Americans came to the border in Southern Arizona to watch for people they call 'illegal.' Hundreds more came to protest the Project as a racist provocation. A local law student organized Legal Observer trainings through the ACLU. Those who live in the area continued their weekly vigils to remember those who die desperately trying to cross the Sonoran desert and the border.

Migrants and Migrant Aid
Sonora

Mexico is a country on the move. Working age men ride empty rail cars, hitchhike, or simply walk in search of work. Many migrants are already far from home when they approach the border; some will cross and some will not. The migrants suffer in the dessert, and people on both sides try to lessen the humanitarian crisis.

Volleyball & The Border/Borderlands
Ambos Nogales and Nacos

For the past few years people living across the line have come together to play volleyball and enjoy their cross-border community. The border and border enforcement, dominate the society and its geography. So artists paint murals on the wall, Americans march en masse to Mexico for community events, and Border Patrol tries to focus on the real threats posed by weapons, drug, and human smuggling.
